Onions
Wrap onions individually in foil to keep them from becoming soft or sprouting.
Cheese
Wrap cheese in a vinegar-damped cloth to keep it from drying out
Milk
Milk at room temperature may spoil colder milk, so don't pour milk from pitcher back into the bottle/ carton.
Cakes
Putting half an apple in the cake box will keep cake moist
Ice Cream
Prevent goory film on ice cream by laying a piece of waxed paper directly over the ice cream before resealing the carton.
Limes
Store limes, wrapped in tissue paper, on towel shelf of the refrigerator.
Lemons
Lemons will be juicer if stored in a sealed jar of water in the refrigerator.
Strawberries
Keep strawberries in a colander in the refrigerator. Wash just before serving.
Vegetables with tops
Remove the tops on carrots, beets, ect. before storing
Wilting vegetables
Remove brown edges of vegetables ang sprinkle with water. Wrap in a towel and pop into the refrigerator for about an hour. Or, dip quickly in a hot water, then ice water with a small amlunt of cider vinegar added.
Thawing frozen meat
Seal the frozen meat in a plastic bag and place in a bowl of very warm water.
Hurry-up baked potatoes
Boil potatoes in salted water for 10 minutes, then place in a very hot oven.
Chopped onions
Peel and quarter. Place one layer deep in a small pan and freeze. Quickly pack in bags ir containers while frozen use as needed, chopping onions while frozen, with a sharp knife.
Mashed potatoes
Save some water in which the potatoes were boiled, aff to some powdered milk and use when mashing. This restores some of the nutrients that were losing in the cooking process.
Use couple of tablespoons of cream cheese in place of butter for your mashed potatoes. Try using sour cream instead of milk when mashing.
Onions minus tears
Peel onions under cold water or refrigerate before chopping.
Perfect noodles
When cooking noodles, bring required amount of water to a boil, add noodles turn heat of water to a boil, add noodles, turn heat off and allow to stand for 30 minutes. This prevents over boiling and the chore of stirrings. Noodles won't stick to the pan with this method.
Baked fish
To keep fish from sticking to the pan, vake on a bed of chopped onion, celery and parsley. This method also added some nice flavour to the fish.
Fishy odor
To remove the odor of the fish from cooking and serving implements, rinse in a vinegar.
Easy to fry sausage
Pin ausage together with meat skewer before frying them. They can be easily turned at the same time with a spatula. This also reduces splattering.
Corn cob holder
Corn can easily be removed cob by pounding a 3 inch nail into a board that is one foot square in measurement. Insert the end of the cob into the nail, and the ear will turn easily as you cut
Frozen soup
Freeze homemade soup in bread pans and ice cube trats. When frozen, store in a plastic bans in the freezer. This will take up much less space than large containers.
